The site I have chosen is the most sacred space I belong to.
I chose to document my bedroom through video to capture the rituals I practice, the time spent, and the peace I feel.
This is the site I feel is most specific to me; the only way to present it authentically is to record moments throughout my day and into the next.
Not rushing the video allows the viewer to soak in the energy. The movements my body experiences every day are sacred and specific to this site;
connecting to flow, care, and repetition.

Symbolism:

14:20 minutes in length = number of my first apartment/of this building

audio = panda drum that I use to calm, align and focus my thoughts and myself

rituals that are only seen by me, in this specific site = smoking, journaling, lighting candles, turning my lights on and off, making my bed, going into bed, getting out of bed, blowing out candles, opening and closing windows, drumming, meditating

Installation method and connection:

I think the time captured reflects and elevates how much of my present life is spent here, repeating the same motions and actions with varied intentions.

I consider the slow montage to be monumental of this specific time in my life, in this building. There is a lot of sentimental value because it is my first year of independence, of which I have complete control over where my time is spent.

Ideally, the video would continuously repeat forever to depict the repetition and continuity of this site, past the time of installation. After moving away, this video will remain as a memory of sanctuary and freedom; as a reminder that my time is the most valuable thing I will ever own.

This site is specific to personal evolution, time and the ritual of self-care and healing.

It is the most intimate and vulnerable space I could share.

As I write this, I perform my ritual of sitting and typing, within this site.

These rituals are bound to this physical space.
These motions cannot be replicated anywhere else.
There is no other place in the world that is as intimate and tangible as this space in my eyes as the creator.
I feel the most grounded here.
Every feature and element is linked to my Self and history, hence a part of my identity.
No other person could present this site and that is why it is so personal to my life, and why I chose it.

the site—reinforcing a general cultural valorization of places as the locus of authentic experience and coherent sense of historical and personal identity..."

artist statement

my most sacred sanctuary, where rituals are performed and self-care takes place; this is where I reflect, love, and take the time to breathe.
