Q: "I am a beginner with wire sculpting. My thumb and pointer fingers have become quite sore and even a little swollen from wire straightening and holding the wires tight. Is there some secret to prevent this, or do I just have to toughen my fingers up?"
A: "I had to smile when I read your question, Jeanne, because even now there are days when my fingers and hands still become sore and sometimes swollen. If I have not worked with wire for a few days, or if I have been working for 6 or 7 days in a row, 8 to 10 hours a day, my digits still become overworked. Yes, holding the wire tightly while straightening can cramp your non-dominant hand; some folks place that end of the wire in a vise to hold it while straightening."

"Calle’s descriptions of the hotel rooms and their contents combine factual documentation along with her personal response to the people whose lives she glimpsed by examining their belongings. Each text begins with the chambermaid/artist’s first entry into the room and a notation of which bed or beds have been slept in, with a description of the nightwear the guests have left. A list of objects usually follows, as the artist transcribes her activities in the room. Calle is unashamedly voyeuristic, reading diaries, letters, postcards and notes written or kept by the unknown guests, rummaging in suitcases, and looking into wardrobes and drawers. "

I resisted
the sharp temptation
to save them somewhere
as schoolboys
keep
fireflies,
as learned men
collect
sacred texts,
I resisted
the mad impulse
to put them
into a golden
cage
and each day give them
birdseed
and pieces of pink melon..."

Stewart, Susan. On Longing. Duke University Press, 1992.
'Stewart examines the ways in which the "souvenir" and the "collection" are objects mediating experience in time and space."

https://www.raphaelledegroot.net/the-burden-of-objects
"When I start collecting, I think of each situation in my life through this activity. It triggers a process. I sort through the objects and set them up in various ways in the space. These gestures enable me to create groupings, families. To weave a web of relations which also extends beyond. I think of the different lives of objects. Of the various journeys they have made since they were manufactured, of the tightness of the spaces that later separate them. I wonder about what remains and what is lost through them. Personal objects, commercial and institutionalized objects. How to extricate them from the categories which limit their use?"

"Autistic people might also become attached to objects (or parts of objects), such as toys, figurines or model cars – or more unusual objects like milk bottle tops, stones or shoes. An interest in collecting is also quite common."
